This is particularly frustrating because it seems like a significant portion of the price is for the app you must download to access any features of the device, and without a subscription, the functionality is quite limited.
In summary, you risk having your data sold from an app that you need just to use the device, and you must pay for the device itself to access the app. Additionally, you’re pressured into thinking you need a subscription to fully utilize the device’s capabilities. The most disappointing part is that the subscription costs $12.99 per month or $99.99 annually—essentially $100. If you decide to purchase this, be prepared for the ongoing costs to access all features.
I prefer to maintain a positive outlook and don’t want to come across as overly critical. That said, one redeeming quality is that you have an app interface instead of just a standalone screen for the reader, along with the capability to view measurements like temperature, RPM, or whatever you choose to display within the app.

I guess that upgrade might have given me insights into what was wrong with the car and the repair costs, rather than just providing the codes like a standard reader would. I was pretty disappointed that I had to pay extra for something that should have been included. I’ll stick with my old scanner and look up the codes myself; that way, I can research the issues better. If you need a mechanic, ask around or look online for someone trustworthy. There are plenty of resources available to troubleshoot problems without incurring a $99 fee. It’s surprising that the total cost could end up being as much as or even more than what a mechanic would charge for using their expensive diagnostic machines. Any OBD II scanner should suffice for general information without additional fees!
